We know our country as India with several other names like ‘Bharat’, ‘Hindustan’, ‘Hind’, ‘Bharatbhumi’, ‘Bharatvarsh’ and all these terms evoke different emotions.

"Bharat" would probably signify the ancient, culturally rich and vibrant civilisation that gives us the very basic identity and character as a nation. Not forgetting that Bharat was more of a ragtag collection of kingdoms. Very few rulers had the vision to attempt a unification. "India", on the other hand, would emote to a more modern existence. A country that is not only vibrant but also an emerging world power in terms of technology and science. Then what about "Hindusthan", the most controversial name till date? Bharat if Secular then why the name Hindusthan?
Here I want to make it clear that the term Hindustan is completely different from the perception of India to be the land of Hindus,(a religion or community), instead it is "the land beyond the Indus".
Iranian inscriptions are important for the origin of the term Hindu. The term Hindu occurs in the inscriptions of fifth-sixth century BC. It is derived from the sanskrit term Sindhu. In post-Kushan times, the Iranian ruler conquered the Sindh area and named it Hindustan. Linguistically S becomes H in Iranian form. Therefore in the earliest stage, the term Hindu means a territorial unit. It neither indicates a religion nor a community.

A country full of contradictions, chaos, love, hatred, opulence, poverty, development. And yet the vibrancy and optimism surprise one and all. Within all these why to add the non- secular version of perceptions creating gap between the heavenly bonded brotherhood !!!
